thumb_IMG_3381_1024IMG_1354On your full-day-tour, you will have the opportunity to visit the Maheela production site and see how high-quality scarves are developed. We will show you all the necessary steps required to produce a scarf by hand such as dying the yarn, spinning, weaving, fringe twisting and the final quality control (you can learn more about the production process here).

With the help of the skilled women, you will also get hands on experience in spinning and weaving on a handloom. The Maheela Textile Co-operation focuses on maintaining the traditional cultural heritage of Dhaka textile, which is a complex and time-consuming handcraft.

After the production tour, we will visit the non-violence school and the kindergarten / daycare center. Both centres are established by the WFN and are important contributions to educate and empower the new generation. You will have the opportunity to look behind the school gates and see the children aged 6 – 14 years attending their classes and get an insight on the daily school life

Not far from the school is the daycare center where women IMG_E0640(mainly victims of abuse and single mothers) can bring their toddlers while they go to work.
This establishment is very important for these women and enable them to be self-sufficient and support themselves and their children.

Finally, we will introduce you to our shelter for rescued children. Most children have been rescued from violent homes, abusive environments or directly from the streets. A lot of love and energy is invested by the WFN in the shelter home and our first priority is to create a place for the children to feel safe, receive food, medical support, legal aids, skills training and schooling. The shelter home is like a big family where everyone looks out for each other. You will have the possibility to visit this shelter on Saturdays and meet the lovely people living there. The children will welcome you warmly with songs and dancing.
